Swimmer Teia Salvino breaks national, SEAG record to claim gold in Cambodia SEA Games


Swimmer Teia Salvino won the gold medal in the women's 100m backstroke event of the 32nd Southeast Asian Games on Tuesday in Cambodia.

Salvino clocked in 1:01.64 minutes to finish first and break the meet record at 1:01.89 by Vietnam's Nguy?n Th? Ánh Viên in the 2017 edition of the biennial meet in Malaysia.

This is the Philippines' 24th overall gold medal from the regional tourney and aquatics' second gold after Xiandi Chua's win in the women's 200 meter backstroke.

In other events, the team composed of Jarod Hatch, Jasmine Alkhaldi, Jerard Jacinto, and Thanya Cruz claimed the silver medal after finishing second in the mixed 4x100m relay, with the Singapore team claiming gold at 3:51.72, and Thailand's bets finishing third at 3:58.18. Hatch also copped a silver in the men's 100m butterfly event.

Alkhaldi also had a bronze medal in women's 100m butterfly while Xiandi Chua got another medal, this time a bronze, from women's 400m individual medley.
