Veteran para swimmer Ernie Gawilan gets another gold in ASEAN Para Games


Ernie Gawilan showcased his veteran experience as he secured another gold medal in the 2023 ASEAN Para Games on Wednesday at the Morodok Techo Stadium Aquatic Center in Phnom Penh, Cambodia.

The 32-year-old para swimmer, who has competed in two editions of the Paralympics, clocked in two minutes and 50.29 seconds to top the men's 200m individual medley SM7 while Nguyen Hoang Nha of Vietnam came in second with two minutes and 56.96 finish.

Another Vietnamese bet Han Quang Thoai settled for bronze after finishing the race in two minutes and 57.25 seconds.

This is Gawilan's third medal in the ongoing biennial meet as he already bagged a gold in men's 400m freestyle S7 last Sunday while he took home bronze in 100m backstroke last Monday.

Meanwhile, three bronze medals were produced by Filipino para table tennis representatives as Jhona Peña and Angela Querubin wound up third in the women's doubles TT9. Peña also partnered with Leo Macalanda to bag another bronze in mixed doubles T6-7.

Darwin Salvacion and Lucena Jaranilla finished with bronze in mixed doubles T5.
