Echo boots out Todak to secure MSC semis spot

PHNOM PENH—Echo recovered from a Game 2 setback to pull off a 3-1 victory against Malaysia’s Todak during their best-of-five Mobile Legends: Bang Bang Southeast Asia Cup (MSC) 2023 quarterfinals series on Friday here.

Echo, the reigning world and MPL Philippines champion, will advance to the semifinals round where it will face either Onic Esports or EVOS Legends of Indonesia.

After making a quick work of Todak in the opening game, the Orcas built on that momentum to have the advantage early in Game 2, even building a 9-1 kill spread at the 7th minute.

But Todak’s gold laner Cikugais (Claude) was able to steal the last lord before they destroyed Echo’s base and even the series to 1-1.

Echo’s own gold laner Benedict “Bennyqt” Gonzales then got his comfort pick in Wanwan, which unleashed a perfect KDA of seven kills and eight assists against no death, as Echo cruised to the match point, 2-1.

Bennyqt and Cikugais also had a showdown of backdoor attempts in Game 2.

Bennyqt, using another one of his comfort hero picks in Karrie, took over in the crucial Game 4, unleashing a triple kill en route to a wipeout late in the match as Echo completed the win.
