Stephen Loman tells Kwon Won Il to wait his turn
ONE bantamweight contender Stephen Loman of Baguio City's Team Lakay has shrugged off the callout from South Korean hard-hitter Kwon Won Il.
Kwon, the no. 4 rated bantamweight in the world by ONE Championship, stopped in two rounds the no. 5 rated Artem Belakh earlier this month. He then called out Loman after the fight, but the Filipino prizefighter refused to bite the bait.
"Kwon Won Il was really impressive in that fight. He performed well and got a TKO win against Artem Belakh, and got himself a bonus, so good for him,” Loman noted.
"But I think he’s forgotten about me. When I beat Bibiano, I [knew] that I [was] closer to a world title shot. Kwon already lost to Andrade, and I believe he knows that I’m the next in line to the world title shot."
Loman, 17-2 as a professional mixed martial artist, is coming off his biggest win to date following a dominant unanimous decision nod over former world titleholder Bibiano Fernandes last November.
ONE bantamweight world champion, meanwhile, Fabricio Andrade defeated John Lineker earlier this year.
"To Kwon, you better wait. I’m the one next in line to Andrade. The champ said it himself: ‘We have business to settle'," Loman stressed.
