SEAG medalists ceremonially receive incentives from POC during Olympic Day


More than 70 athletes who had a podium finish in the recent Southeast Asian Games in Cambodia ceremonially received incentives from the Philippine Olympic Committee during the celebration of Olympic Day on Friday at the University of the Philippines Track and Field Oval.

The incentives came from the support of the MVP Sports Foundation to the POC Trust Fund. Gold medalists will receive P100,000, while silver and bronze medalists will have P50,000 and P25,000 each. Team sports are also entitled to the said incentives.

“The POC is so grateful to Mr. Manny V. Pangilinan for his continuous generosity to help our athletes to excel in their respective sports through the years,” POC president Abraham Tolentino said. “The athletes are very thankful and they promise us to do their best in future competitions.”

MVPSF executive director Jude Turcuato turned over the check for the incentives to POC deputy secretary-general Karen Tanchancho-Caballero.

“We are celebrating now the Olympic Day and it’s a good timing. We want to thank our athletes as well for giving their best," said Turcuato.

A total of 260 athletes will receive the said incentives which will be given out starting next week.

The Olympic Day is held annually by national Olympic committees to celebrate the founding of the International Olympic Committee by Baron Pierre de Coubertin on June 23, 1894.
