Youth Olympian's sister Naina Tagle breaks Palaro record in archery; Carlos Yulo's brother Eldrew gets six golds
For some families, sports seem to really run in their blood.
Naina Tagle was right on target when she broke the Palarong Pambansa record in archery in Marikina.
From the record of 321 points in 2018, Palaro first-timer Naina posted 327 points in the 60-meter event.
Along with a new record, Tagle bagged six gold medals and two silver medals in other events from the national tournament.
"It makes me want to work harder for a better record," Naina said in 24 Oras' report on Friday,
"I just trained really hard and I prayed to God."
It may be her maiden performance in Palarong Pambansa, but it was not surprising as her coach was her sister Nicole, who was a Southeast Asian Games medalist.
"First time ng sister ko and when it's your first time, nobody would expect na you would get something out of the competition," said Nicole who also donned the national colors in the 2018 Youth Olympics.
Meanwhile, Eldrew Yulo, the brother of Olympian Carlos Yulo, shone in the Palarong Pambansa with six gold medals.
Eldrew won gold medals in the floor, vault, mushroom, horizontal bar, and individual all-around events of the tournament, along with a gold in the team event.
Other student-athletes also shone in this year's Palarong Pambansa.
Miel Cipriano of Region III had five gold medals in archery, while Mico Villaran led Western Visayas in athletics with four gold medals.
