Filipino Olympian and pole vaulter EJ Obiena advanced to the men's pole vault finals of the 2023 World Athletics Championships in Budapest, Hungary on Wednesday.

Obiena cleared 5.75 meters after jumping both the 5.55 and 5.75 clearances with just one attempt each, while skipping the 5.35 and 5.70 clearances.

He finished on the top spot, along with Sweden's Armand Duplantis, Australia's Kurtis Marschall, and United States' Christopher Nilsen.

Only those who cleared 5.80 meters or be included in the twelve best performers would advance to the finals. A total of 13 competitors qualified as they all cleared 5.75 meters.

During the 2022 edition of the World Championships, Obiena copped the bronze medal with 5.94 meters.

The finals is set on Saturday night (Budapest time).
