EJ Obiena claims silver in World Athletics Championships with another 6-meter clearance

Filipino Olympian and pole vaulter EJ Obiena claimed the silver medal in the World Athletics Championships in Budapest on Saturday (Budapest time) after another six-meter clearance.

Obiena achieved the feat after two attempts on the said level.

This tied his personal best and the Asian record he first recorded back in June at the Bergen Jump Challenge in Norway

Obiena tried to clear 6.05 and 6.10 meters but did not complete the said attempts.

Armand Duplantis won the gold medal at 6.10 meters which gave him his second straight world title. Meanwhile, Australia's Kurtis Marschall and American Christopher Nilsen shared the bronze medal at 5.95 meters.

In the 2022 edition of the world championships, Obiena bagged the bronze medal at 5.94 meters.

Obiena is the first Filipino qualified for the 2024 Paris Olympics after meeting the entry standard 5.80 meters during the BAUHAUS-Galan leg of the Diamond League in Stockholm, Sweden where he registered a 5.82-meter clearance.
