EJ Obiena receives apology from Anais Lavillenie on doping allegation, reasserts being clean

Filipino Olympian and pole vaulter EJ Obiena on Thursday revealed receiving an apology from Anais Lavillenie, the wife of fellow pole vaulter Renaud Lavillenie.

Anais previously alleged on social media that Obiena 'doped.'

In a letter signed by Anais and posted by Obiena, Anais apologized for the accusation she has thrown to him and his coach Vitaliy Petrov.

"I made a stupid amalgam that I should have never done and written, I admit, and that's why I deleted the comment  after the fact but the damage was done. I am sincerely sorry," Anais wrote in the letter.

"I am aware that I have disrespected you and your coach and I deeply regret my act."

Obiena, meanwhile, said Anais' apology closes the matter for him.

"I received today the attached apology letter from Anais Lavillenie. I accept this. She admits she was wrong and she admits what she did was wrong.  This fact, alongside all other facts makes it clear.  I am a 100% CLEAN ATHLETE," he wrote.

Previously, Obiena and his camp shared results from polygraph and EyeDetect tests to further prove that he is clean.

Obiena has already qualified for the 2024 Paris Olympics.
