Stamp Fairtex withdraws from world title fight vs Denice Zamboanga
ONE women's atomweight world champion Stamp Fairtex has pulled out of her title defense against the Philippines' Denice Zamboanga after the former suffered a knee injury in training.
This is the second that the fight was met with a roadblock. Initially scheduled for ONE 166 in March, the bout was moved to ONE 167 on June 8, but that date would not happen either now for Zamboanga.
"I’m sorry that I didn’t get on stage for everyone to cheer on. I worked hard and I was very focused for this fight. [But] accidents can happen all the time. I promise that I’ll do my best [in] therapy and I’ll come back the best as well," Stamp said in a statement.
According to a press release by ONE Championship, Stamp twisted her knee and landed "awkwardly" during a sparring session that resulted to a torn meniscus. The promotion is now looking to give Zamboanga a last-minute opponent after the latest development.
