Hidilyn Diaz proud to see Carlos Yulo overcome adversities to win in life, sports

Weightlifting ace Hidilyn Diaz expressed pride in seeing fellow homegrown Filipino athlete Carlos Yulo excel in both life and sports despite going through setbacks.

Diaz congratulated the 24-year-old gymnast on the heels of his gold medal run in the men's vault finals of the 2024 Paris Olympics, hiking his personal and the country's medal tally to two. Just last Saturday night, Yulo also ruled the floor exercise to give the Philippines its first medal in the ongoing Summer Games.

And one of the first people to extend their greetings to Yulo was Diaz.

"Congratulations ulit, Caloy! Ang galing! Ipinagmamalaki kita, hindi lang sa mga medalya mo kundi dahil sa hirap na pinagdaanan mo para makamit ang tagumpay, para sa sarili at higit pang lalo, para sa bayan," Diaz said in an Instagram post.

"Magkikita tayo diyan Caloy at mahigpit na yakap mula sa Ate Haidie mo! God bless you!"

Another elite athlete in EJ Obiena congratulated Yulo for a feat no one has done before in the history of the Philippines in the quadrennial meet.

Obiena, the Asia's best and world no. 2, praised Yulo through an Instagram story with just a day before he himself plunges in the finals of the men's pole vault on early Tuesday.
