Speed skater Peter Groseclose advances to men's 1500m semis, QF of 500m, 1000m events
Short track speed skater Peter Groseclose had an eventful Friday morning at the 2025 Asian Winter Games in Harbin, China as he advanced to the semifinals of the men's 1500m race, and the quarterfinals of the men's 500m and 1000m races.
In the men's 1500m quarterfinals, Groseclose clocked 2:19.318 to finish fourth in the sixth group as he qualified by time. In Groseclose's group, China's Liu Shaoang (2:16.538), Kazakhstan's Denis Nikisha (2:16.863), and Japan's Shun Saito (2:16.933) grabbed the first three spots to advance to the semis as well. A total of 21 speed skaters advanced to the semifinals which will take place on Saturday morning.
Groseclose also advanced to the quarterfinals of the men's 500m race as he registered 42.562 seconds to finish second in his heat group behind Jang Sungwoo of Korea (42.258). The top two racers of each group, along with four best-ranked third place finishers advanced to the quarters on Saturday afternoon.
The Philippine representative also advanced to the quarterfinals of the men's 1000m race as he finished second in Heat 8 with a time of 1:29.636. Kazakhstan's Adil Galiakhmetov finished first in their heat group with 1:29.468 minutes. The quarterfinals for this race is set on Sunday.
Later tonight, Groseclose, along with Curling Pilipinas' Kathleen Dubberstein will carry the Philippine flag in the opening ceremony of the Asian Winter Games.
