Peter Groseclose, Tallulah Proulx, Francis Ceccarelli end runs in Asian Winter Games
Short track speed skating's Peter Groseclose and alpine skiing's Tallulah Proulx and Francis Ceccarelli ended their respective runs for the Philippines in the 2025 Asian Winter Games over the weekend.
Groseclose reached the semifinals of the men's 1500m race on Saturday where he clocked in 2:32.668 to finish sixth among seven competitors in their semifinal group to miss the cut to the finals. In the men's 500m event, the 17-year old skater fell short of the top two spot in his quarterfinal group as he registered 42.331 seconds behind China's Lin Xiaojun (41.325) and Kazakhstan's Abzal Azhgaliyev (41.876).
On Sunday, Groseclose competed in the quarterfinals of the men's 1000m race but finished third in his group with 1:28.045. The top two skaters in his group Adil Galiakhmetov (1:27.443) of Kazakhstan and China's Liu Shaoang advanced to the semis.
Meanwhile, Proulx on Saturday had 58.24 seconds in her first run in women's slalom, followed by 55.18 seconds on the second run to have a total of 1:53.42 minutes and place 16th overall out of 45 athletes. The day after, Ceccarelli was disqualified in his first run in men’s slalom as he went out of the slalom line when he tried to speed up his maneuver down the snowy alps.
The men's and women's curling teams, meanwhile, had contrasting results with the men suffering a 6-1 loss to Korea, while the women won against Qatar, 13-1.
The Philippines' campaigns in figure skating and freestyle skiing will open on Tuesday.
