EJ Obiena wound up outside of the podium anew, finishing fifth at the Shanghai leg of Wanda Diamond League on Saturday in China.

The Filipino pole vault champion finished fifth in the 10-man field, clearing 5.72 meters in his second attempt. The world no. 4 vaulter tried to soar past the next height at 5.82m, but failed after three faults.

He also easily cleared 5.42 and 5.62 meters to kick off his campaign.

Mondo Duplantis hardly broke a sweat to dominate once again, clearing a meet record of 6.11 meters to bag the first place while Greek pole vaulter Emmanouil Karalis and Menno Vloon of the Netherlands finished at second and third place after registering 6.01m and 5.82m, respectively.

Obiena was coming off a 7th place outing at the Xiamen leg, where he needed two attempts to clear 5.62 meters. In the same event, Duplantis reigned supreme after completing the 5.92 meters.
