Elreen Ando, Rosegie Ramos shine in 2025 Asian Weightlifting Championships


Elreen Ando and Rosegie Ramos proved they are among the next big stars in weightlifting as the young athletes captured three silver medals each in the 2025 Asian Weightlifting Championships in Jiangshan, China. 

The 26-year-old Ando, a two-time Olympian and multiple SEA Games medalist, finished second in clean and jerk, snatch, and total to lead the country's medal haul in the tournament. 

Ando, who represented the Philippines during the Tokyo and Paris Olympics, lifted 102kg in snatch and 130kg in clean and jerk for an impressive total lift of 232kg in the women's 64kg division. China's very own Li Shuang, who is six years younger than the Filipina bet, lifted a total of 239kg to rule the category. 

Ramos likewise swept the silver medals in the women's 49kg class. The 21-year-old athlete lifted 90kg in snatch and 107kg in clean and jerk to complete a 197kg-outing. 

Thailand's Thanyathon Sukcharoen claimed three gold medals with 91kg in snatch and 109kg in clean and jerk for a 200kg total lift. 

Another Filipino representative in Fernando Agad Jr. captured one silver after hoisting 141kg in clean and jerk of the men's 55kg division. He, however, wound up fourth in total and snatch after lifting just 254kg and 113kg, respectively.
