Alex Eala beats Fil-Aussie Lizette Cabrera, advances to Ilkley Open Round of 16

Top seeded Alex Eala opened her campaign in the Ilkley Open with a win against Filipino-Australian Lizette Cabrera, 7(7)-6, 6-3, on early Wednesday in the tournament's Round of 32 in Northern England.

The match lasted for an hour and 46 minutes as Eala returned to competition after falling short in her Birmingham Classic campaign.

Cabrera, whose parents are both Filipinos, is world no. 206, while Eala recently dropped to no. 77 in the WTA rankings.

Eala will face Switzerland's Valentina Ryser, WTA no. 230, in the Round of 16.
