Alex Eala preparing for US Open, WTA return in Brazil up next
Alex Eala is set for a busy stretch on the international stage as the Filipina tennis star is expected to participate in a couple of high-profile tournaments in the next few weeks.
The world no. 68 Eala is tipped to make her much-awaited US Open debut in the final Grand Slam of the year before flying to Brazil, where the WTA returns to Sao Paulo after a 25-year absence.
The Rafa Nadal Academy in a social media post announced Eala’s participation in the US Open, marking her first tournament since July 28. The 20-year-old tennis sensation had been sidelined after a shoulder injury forced her to withdraw from the Cincinnati Open, which also ruled her out of the Montreal Open.
Aside from Eala, Rafa Nadal Academy also shared the participation of other athletes in Casper Ruud, Martin Landaluce, Alina Korneeva, Dani Rincon, Jaume Munar Clar, Solana Sierra, and Coleman Wong.
Right after the US Open, which is slated for August 25 to September 7, Eala will head to Brazil for the SP Open in São Paulo, scheduled from September 8 to 14.
The SP Open is the first WTA event in Brazil since 2000 with the likes of world no. 21 and hometown bet Beatriz Haddad Maia and world no. 51 Hailey Baptiste of USA leading the 32-player field of singles event.
