Alex Eala’s most memorable moments at the US Open

The US Open will likely always hold a special place in the heart of Filipina tennis ace Alex Eala.

After all, it was at this tournament where she carved some of the most memorable and historic moments of her career, even during her junior days.

Here are some of Eala’s remarkable moments at the US Open:

2021 – Reaching the semifinals of the girls’ doubles event

At just 16 years old, Eala was already making waves on the global stage, reaching the semifinals of the girls’ doubles event alongside Belgium’s Hanne Vandewinkel. Their duo eventually fell to Elvina Kalieva and Reese Brantmeier in the semifinals.

In the singles tournament, Eala also had a strong showing, reaching the quarterfinals before bowing out to Sebastiana Scilipoti.

2022 – Winning the girls’ singles title

Eala made history in 2022 by becoming the first Filipino to win a US Open junior girls’ singles crown.

Along the way, she defeated several top players, including current world No. 5 Mirra Andreeva in the quarterfinals and world No. 23 Victoria Mboko in the semifinals.

In the championship match, she won against Lucie Havlickova, 6–2, 6–4.

2025 – Winning her first Grand Slam main draw match

Three years after her historic juniors title, Eala reached another milestone by winning her first-ever Grand Slam main draw match. In doing so, she also became the first Filipino to win a singles match in a Grand Slam main draw.

Eala pulled off a comeback victory against Clara Tauson in the first round, 6–3, 2–6, 7(13)–6(11).

She then faced Spain’s Cristina Bucsa in the second round but fell short.

Despite the loss, Eala said she felt incredibly supported during her 2025 US Open campaign and promised to come back stronger.
