What’s next for Alex Eala after the SP Open?
The season is far from over for Alex Eala.
After capturing her first WTA 125 title last week in Guadalajara, the Filipina tennis ace extended her winning streak at the SP Open in Sao Paulo.
However, her run came to an end in the quarterfinals, where she suffered a 6-4, 6-1 loss to Indonesia’s Janice Tjen, snapping her seven-match win streak.
Still, Eala’s historic year continues as she shifts her focus to Asian tournaments.
Barring any changes, Eala is expected to compete in the Jingshan Tennis Open in China, scheduled to run from September 22 to 28. The Jingshan Tennis Open is part of the WTA 125 circuit.
According to the WTA website, the WTA 125 series, which includes both the Guadalajara 125 and the Jingshan Tennis Open, "offers both established WTA players and talented newcomers the ability to build their careers and progress up to the highest levels of the WTA Tour."
The higher tiers of the WTA Tour are the WTA 250, WTA 500, and WTA 1000 events, with the numbers indicating the ranking points awarded to the champions. At the very top are the Grand Slams, the Australian Open, French Open, Wimbledon, and US Open, which award 2,000 ranking points to the winners.
