Alex Eala advances to Jingshan Open quarterfinals

Filipina tennis ace Alex Eala booked a spot in the Jingshan Tennis Open quarterfinals after defeating Japan’s Mei Yamaguchi, 6-0, 6-3, on Thursday in China.

Eala made quick work of Yamaguchi in the opening set before the Japanese player found some sort of rhythm in the second.

The Filipina was leading 2-0 in Set 2 before Yamaguchi got on the board by taking a game.

Eala then responded with two more games to go up 4-1, but Yamaguchi fought back, claiming the next two to narrow the gap to 4-3.

Flexing her composure, Eala then sealed the match by taking the final two games.

Eala will face the winner of the ongoing match between Jia-Jing Lu of China and Riya Bhatia of India in the quarters.
