Alexandra "Alex" Eala aims to book a spot in the semifinals of the Jingshan Tennis Open as she faces China's Jia-Jing Lu in their quarterfinals clash on Friday at 11:00 a.m.
The 20-year-old Eala, currently ranked No. 58 in the world, is coming off a 6-0, 6-3 win over Japan's Mei Yamaguchi in the Round of 16, following a 6-3, 7-5 victory against Belarusian Aliona Falei in the opening round.
Meanwhile, the 35-year-old Lu, ranked No. 349, advanced after defeating India's Riya Bhatia, 6-4, 6-0, in the previous round. She earlier survived a tough first-round battle against Russia's Ekaterina Reyngold, 6(5)-7(7), 6-4, 6-4.
The winner of the Eala vs. Lu match will face either Lulu Sun or Elena Pridankina in the semifinals.
As quarterfinalists, both Eala and Lu are already guaranteed 27 ranking points and a minimum cash prize of $4,620, according to a WTA document.
