Alex Eala's 2025 semifinals runs: A look at her past performances this year

Alex Eala and how she fared in her semis stints in 2025

Alexandra "Alex" Eala has reached her fourth semifinal of the year, this time at the Jingshan Tennis Open in China.

Eala advanced to the Jingshan semifinals after defeating China’s Jia-Jing Lu, 6-4, 6-1, on Friday.

She will next face Lulu Sun of New Zealand for a spot in the finals.

Earlier this year, Eala also reached the semifinals of the Miami Open, Eastbourne Open, and the Guadalajara 125 Open.

Here’s how she fared in each tournament:

Miami Open | Eala lost to Jessica Pegula, 6(3)-7, 7-5, 3-6

Eala had a breakthrough run in Miami, defeating Grand Slam champions Jelena Ostapenko, Madison Keys, and Iga Swiatek.

In the semifinals, she pushed world No. 5 Jessica Pegula to three sets but eventually fell short in a hard-fought battle.

Eastbourne Open | Eala def. Varvara Gracheva, 7-5, 2-6, 6-3

As a qualifier, Eala made a deep run in Eastbourne and faced then-world No. 111 Varvara Gracheva of France in the semifinals.

After splitting the first two sets, Eala held firm in the decider to book her place in the final. She later lost to Australia’s Maya Join in the championship match.

Guadalajara 125 Open | Eala def. Kayla Day, 6-2, 6-3

Earlier this month, Eala claimed her first WTA 125 title in Guadalajara.

She cruised past American Kayla Day in the semifinals and went on to defeat Hungary’s Panna Udvardy in the final.

Should Eala win against Lulu Sun in the Jingshan semifinals, it would mark her third finals appearance of the season.
