Alex Eala, Nadiia Kichenok beat duo of Appleton, Tang to enter Guangzhou Open doubles QF

Alexandra “Alex” Eala and Nadiia Kichenok of Ukraine advanced to the quarterfinals of the Guangzhou Open doubles tournament after defeating Emily Appleton of Great Britain and Qianhui Tang of China in the Round of 16, 6–4, 6–2.

Eala and Kichenok will face Polina Kudermetova and Kamilla Rakhimova in the quarterfinals.

This marks Eala’s first victory since returning to doubles competition, following her last stint at Wimbledon last July, where she and Eva Lys lost to Ingrid Martins and Quinn Gleason.

It also marks Eala’s first win after suffering consecutive losses in the Suzhou Open quarterfinals, the Wuhan Open qualifiers, and the first rounds of both the Japan Women’s Open and the Guangzhou Open.
