MPL PH: TNC knocks out world champ Onic in epic five-game battle

MPL PH: TNC knocks out world champ Onic in epic five-game battle

TNC Pro Team, a team that hasn’t made the playoffs for the six seasons, is marching on to at least a top three finish in the MPL Philippines Season 16.

TNC just pulled off what could be the biggest upset of the season, outlasting no less than reigning world champion Onic Philippines during their knockout lower bracket semifinals, 3-2, to advance to the next phase on Friday.

The road will only get bumpier for the Phoenix Army as they take on another powerhouse team in order to advance to an elusive MPL Grand Finals stage.

TNC will slug it out against Team Liquid in the lower bracket finals, where the winner will get both the right to face the streaking Aurora Gaming in a best-of-seven finals affair and a ticket to the M7 World Championship next year.

Earlier in the day, Aurora Gaming stretched its impressive win streak to 15 following a dominant 3-1 win over Team Liquid, sending the reigning MPL champions to the lower bracket.

TNC and Team Liquid will fight for the last MPL Grand Finals slot on Saturday.
