Team Philippines bows to Team Malaysia in Honor of Kings Nation Clash finale

KUALA LUMPUR—An international title remained elusive for the Philippines after absorbing a 0-4 loss to Team Malaysia in the Honor of Kings Nation Clash finals on Sunday here.

The win allowed powerhouse Malaysia to once again seize an international championship after dominating several tournaments in the past, including the HoK Invitational Season 3 and the HoK Championship, both held in 2024.

"I think because of their experience, and since they already know what playstyle to use, that’s where we’re lacking," said WeTrnd head coach Eric “Exosen” Gubatan following the heartbreaking loss in front of the Malaysian crowd.

Blacklist head coach Gerald “Tgee” Gelacio added: “That’s one, and I think in this grand finals, we, Blacklist International, are disappointed with our performance today. It’s not that great, but it’s a lesson for us.”

Team Philippines, meanwhile, closed out its gallant campaign as runner-up, making history by delivering the country’s first-ever finals appearance on the international stage.

Team Philippines opted to send WeTrnd first in the best-of-seven relay, taking control of all the objectives and marching toward HomeBois Black Shrew Esports’ base in what seemed like a sure victory.

However, the Malaysian club mounted a mighty defense, flipping the game on its head to complete a comeback and draw first blood.

Blacklist International, the PKL Fall champion, represented Team Philippines in both Game 2 and Game 3, but the Filipino squad couldn’t crack the code, falling into a 0–3 hole.

WeTrnd returned in Game 4 in hopes of breaking through, but another Malaysian team—Alpha Gaming—proved too much for the Filipinos, completing a sweep on home soil.

“Sayang ‘yung Game 1 kasi hawak na natin ‘yung bola, pero ayun nga, nabitawan natin and may mga unexpected na nangyari. Malaking bagay siya kasi momentum na sana ‘yung Game 1 para mag-snowball if ever,” Exosen said.

Blacklist International will now shift its focus to the HoK International Championship (KIC), which will be hosted by the Philippines next month.
