Alex Eala and her 2025 WTA season: Results, achievements, and milestones

Alexandra “Alex” Eala had a historic 2025 season that saw her achieve multiple milestones and etch her name in the history books of Philippine sports.

After a dream run in Eastbourne last March, where she defeated several Grand Slam champions, Eala broke into the WTA Top 100, paving the way for her main draw debuts in Grand Slam tournaments such as the French Open and Wimbledon.

But it was at the US Open where Eala truly made history, becoming the first Filipino to win a Grand Slam main-draw match after defeating Clara Tauson in the first round. However, she bowed out in the second round to Cristina Bucsa.

While her US Open campaign was short, Eala bounced back in Guadalajara, Mexico, where she captured her first WTA 125 title — another first for Philippine tennis.

She then went on to compete in several WTA 125 tournaments before heading to Asia for her final stretch of the season.

On Thursday, Eala’s 2025 WTA season came to a close after a hard-fought Round of 16 loss to Victoria Mboko at the Hong Kong Open.
