Karl Eldrew Yulo finishes 8th in Gymnastics Junior World Championships all-around finals
Karl Eldrew Yulo fell short of a medal in the all-around finals of the 3rd Artistic Gymnastics Junior World Championships, finishing eighth overall on Saturday at the Marriott Grand Ballroom in Pasay City.
The 17-year-old rising star in gymnastics tallied 78.731 points to place in the eighth spot among the 24 finalists.
Yulo, the younger brother of two-time Olympic gold medalist Carlos Yulo, opened his finals run on vault and scored 13.466 points before collecting 12.833 and 13.006 on the parallel bars and horizontal bar, respectively.
Yulo then made a huge leap, climbing to third place momentarily after an impressive floor exercise routine that earned him a 14.300—the second-highest score in the apapratus.
He briefly climbed to first place after scoring 13.000 on the pommel horse, but ultimately slipped in the standings following a 12.066 performance on his final apparatus, the rings.
Arsenii Dukhno captured the all-around gold medal with a stellar 82.031 total, highlighted by apparatus-best scores of 14.500 on floor, 13.866 on pommel horse, and 14.266 on parallel bars.
Japanese bet Nao Ojima seized the silver with 81.799 points while Lanbin Yang of China took home the bronze with 81.099 points.
All is not lost for Yulo's medal hopes as he will still compete in the floor finals on Sunday before competing in the vault and horizontal bar finals on Monday.
