ONE Fight Night 38: Jeremy Miado suffers TKO loss to Uzbek foe

Filipino cage veteran Jeremy Miado suffered a technical knockout (TKO) loss against Avazbek Kholmirzaev in the opening bout of ONE Fight Night 38: Andrade vs. Baatarkhuu, Saturday morning at Lumpinee Boxing Stadium in Bangkok, Thailand.

The 32-year-old Albay native enjoyed a tremendous start, immediately making his power felt. Miado intercepted Kholmirzaev’s spinning attack with an explosive counter right hook, sending "Ninzya" to the canvas in the early goings of the first round.

However, the Uzbek displayed strong survival instincts, desperately forcing a clinch that eventually led to his first successful takedown.

In round two, “The Jaguar” scored a perfectly timed takedown to seize top control. However, the momentum swiftly shifted when the Filipino took a massive gamble, attempting to lock in a heel hook and sacrificing his dominant position.

The move backfired as Kholmirzaev escaped the submission attempt with ease. The 25-year-old prospect scrambled to reverse the position, and ended up on top, where he rained down a devastating barrage of ground-and-pound strikes. The sustained assault left Miado unable to effectively defend himself, forcing referee Olivier Coste to stop the contest with just seven seconds left in the round.

With the impressive win, Kholmirzaev improved his record to 15-2 and secured his sixth consecutive victory under the ONE banner. Miado, meanwhile, absorbed his first defeat at flyweight, dropping to 11-9.
