Physical: Asia star Baatarkhuu captures bantamweight title at ONE Fight Night 38
Enkh-Orgil Baatarkhuu ascended as the new king—or khan—of the bantamweight division after dethroning Brazil’s Fabricio Andrade in the main event of ONE Fight Night 38 at Bangkok’s Lumpinee Boxing Stadium.
The Mongolian fighter, who starred in hit Netflix show Physical: Asia, submitted Andrade via rear-naked choke at 1:33 of round four to claim the ONE Bantamweight MMA World Championship.
Baatarkhuu survived an early scare when Andrade stunned him with a sharp elbow dropped him to the canvas. Showing his trademark grit, the 36-year-old clinched up and steadied himself.
He returned in round two with a new-found aggression, pushing forward and scoring a big takedown. Andrade popped back up and utilized his reach to land clean shots from range, but “The Tormentor” dragged the fight back to the ground and threatened with a tight D’Arce choke before unleashing heavy knees.
“Wonder Boy” found a better rhythm in round three, peppering the challenger with punches while avoiding his wild swings. But in the fourth, Baatarkhuu’s persistence paid off as he secured the decisive takedown that led to the fight-ending choke.
Baatarkhuu extended his ONE winning streak to four and improved to 14-3. Meanwhile, Andrade saw his 10-fight unbeaten run snapped, falling to 10-3.
