Alex Eala on being PH flag bearer in SEA Games opening: 'It was surreal!'

Alex Eala says being PH flag bearer at 2025 SEA Games opening ceremony was surreal

Alexandra "Alex" Eala, along with volleyball star Bryan Bagunas, led the Philippines in the parade of nations in the opening ceremony of the 2025 Southeast Asian Games on Tuesday.

For Alex, carrying the flag during the opening ceremony in Bangkok was a surreal moment.

“It was surreal! Nakatulong din na andoon si Kuya Bryan [Bagunas]. I think it was just good vibes to be with the whole delegation, and I am so blessed. It’s an experience of a lifetime," said Alex, who is the youngest flag bearer for the Philippines at 20.

Eala and Bagunas led the 200-strong Philippine contingent during the parade at Rajamangala National Stadium on Tuesday, December 9.

Meanwhile, her father, Mike Eala, said it was a dream come true to see his daughter carry the national flag.

“Sobrang happy. It was a dream since she was a kid to see her carry the national colors. It’s a dream come true. Grabe. I am speechless,” said Mike.

The Philippine tennis team earlier said that having Eala in the Games also lifts the team’s spirits.

The SEA Games will run until December 20.
