Hidilyn Diaz, Gilas Pilipinas fly to Thailand for 2025 SEA Games
Some of the country’s biggest sports stars are flying to Thailand on Thursday for the 2025 Southeast Asian Games.
The Philippines’ first Olympic gold medalist, Hidilyn Diaz, and the rest of the national weightlifting team are heading to the biennial meet, and Diaz said it brings her great pride to wear the national uniform.
“There’s a different kind of pride that comes with wearing the Philippine Team uniform… ‘Yung makita mo ang ‘Philippines’ sa likod mo, at malaman mong bitbit mo ang buong bansa,” she said.
Diaz is making her return to the Southeast Asian Games after missing the 2023 edition.
Meanwhile, the Gilas Pilipinas 5x5 men’s and women’s teams are also en route to Thailand, with hopes of defending the title on the men’s side and regaining the crown on the women’s side.
Weightlifting and 5x5 basketball events will begin on Saturday.
