2025 SEA Games: Baseball team, Olympians Kayla Sanchez, John Cabang Tolentino banner PH medal rush in Day 3

The Philippine baseball team and Olympians Kayla Sanchez and John Cabang Tolentino headlined the country’s six-gold haul on Day 3 of the 2025 Southeast Asian Games on Friday.

The national baseball team opened the gold rush by defeating Thailand, 5–3, in the finals to complete its tournament sweep and secure its third straight gold in the biennial meet.

Sanchez, who competed in the 2024 Paris Olympics, claimed her second gold medal of the Games after ruling the women’s 100m freestyle. She was also part of the team that won gold in the women’s 4x100m freestyle relay.

Tolentino, meanwhile, broke the SEA Games record in the men’s 110m hurdles after clocking 13.66 seconds to take the gold.

Taekwondo’s Tachiana Mangin also delivered after winning the women’s 49kg kyorugi, while gymnast John Ivan Cruz topped the men’s vault finals—sharing the gold with his Malaysian counterpart. Hokett delos Santos added to the athletics haul with his victory in the men’s decathlon.

The country also secured several silver medals courtesy of Lailla Delo (women’s taekwondo 73kg), Clyde Joy Barba and Ronnel Fuentes (pétanque mixed doubles), John Christian Lachica (men’s karate 60kg), Enrique Enriquez (men’s shooting individual skeet), Nusair Lao (men’s taekwondo 68kg), Gabriel Benedict Quitain (men’s judo 73kg), Heather White (women’s 100m freestyle), Xiandi Chua (women’s 200m backstroke), and Joemari Heart Rafael (women’s judo 57kg).

Friday’s bronze medalists include: Michael Mengorio (men’s snooker 6-red), Marie June Adriano (women’s karate 50kg), Santino Luzuriaga (jiu-jitsu ne-waza men’s 62kg), Maryanne Jenelle Montalvo (women’s karate 55kg), Andrea Lois Lao (women’s judo 63kg), Cesiel Domenios and Ma. Corazon Soberre (women’s doubles pétanque), Jhasfer Camingal and Harry Micutuan (men’s doubles pétanque), John Matthew Manantan (men’s karate 67kg), Aleah Finnegan (women’s balance beam), Hergie Bacyadan (women’s boxing 70kg), Daniel John Mercado (men’s judo 55kg), Aljen Aynaga (men’s taekwondo 58kg), Leonard Gorospe (men’s high jump), Patrick Coo (men’s BMX time trial), and Jeralyn Rodriguez (women’s 400m run).
