Alex Eala, Francis Casey Alcantara beat Singapore pair, qualify to SEA Games mixed doubles semis
Alex Eala is assured of at least a second medal after teaming up with Francis Casey Alcantara to defeat Singapore, 6-4, 6-3, in the 2025 SEA Games mixed doubles quarterfinals on Monday at the National Tennis Development Center in Thailand.
The victory sent the Filipino tandem into the semifinals, guaranteeing at least a bronze medal while keeping them in contention for gold in the next round.
The win also secured a medal for the 20-year-old Eala, who earlier dominated Malaysia’s Shihomi Leong, 6-3, 6-1, in the women’s singles quarterfinals.
Eala will return to action on Tuesday for the singles semifinals while their mixed doubles semifinals is slated on Wednesday.
Eala is hoping to surpass her three bronze medal finish in her SEA Games debut back in 2022 in Vietnam.
