How much will SEA Games medalists like Alex Eala, EJ Obiena, and Kayla Sanchez receive as cash incentives?
The 2025 Southeast Asian Games concluded on Saturday, with the Philippines finishing sixth overall after winning 50 gold, 73 silver, and 154 bronze medals.
Along with their victories, Filipino athletes are entitled to cash incentives under Republic Act No. 10699, or the National Athletes and Coaches Benefits and Incentives Act. The law grants monetary rewards to national athletes who win medals in international competitions such as the SEA Games.
For individual events at the SEA Games, medalists will receive the following incentives:
Gold medal: P300,000
Silver medal: P150,000
Bronze medal: P60,000
For team events, the incentives are distributed based on team size:
Teams with fewer than five members: The total incentive is the same as that for individual events and is divided equally among team members.
Teams with five or more members: Each athlete receives 25% of the individual incentive amount.
Based on these guidelines, pole vaulter EJ Obiena is assured of at least ?300,000 for winning a gold medal.
Alex Eala, meanwhile, is set to earn approximately ?345,000 for her gold medal in women’s singles tennis, ?30,000 for being part of a mixed doubles team that won bronze, and an additional amount equivalent to 25% of the bronze medal incentive from the women’s team tennis event, which had five members.
Kayla Sanchez, who won two individual gold medals and three silver medals, is expected to receive up to ?1.05 million, excluding additional incentives from team events in which she helped secure one gold and two silver medals.
Athletes who also surpassed national records or ranking shall be given incentives, with the amount determined by the PSC.
