Who is Wang Xinyu? Alex Eala’s ASB Classic semifinals opponent

Alexandra “Alex” Eala is set to face China’s Wang Xinyu in the semifinals of the ASB Classic singles tournament on Saturday.

Eala enters the matchup riding a 6-3, 6-2 quarterfinal victory over Poland’s Magda Linette.

Wang, the tournament’s seventh seed, is currently ranked No. 57 by the Women’s Tennis Association, four spots behind Eala, who sits at No. 53.

The 24-year-old Wang previously reached a career-high singles ranking of No. 32 in 2023.

If Eala advances to the final, the Filipina ace will meet the winner of the other semifinal between Elina Svitolina and Iva Jovic.

By reaching the semifinals, Eala has already secured 98 WTA ranking points and a cash prize of $12,331.

In 2025, Eala made a historic run by reaching the WTA Top 100 and winning her first WTA 125 title in Guadalajara and first Southeast Asian Games gold medal.
