MLBB: Team Liquid enters M7 knockout stage after sweeping Yangon Galacticos
There was no denying Team Liquid this time as the Filipino champions secured a spot in the M7 World Championship knockout stage with a 2-0 victory over Myanmar’s Yangon Galacticos on Thursday in Jakarta, Indonesia.
The Cavalry unleashed their frustration on the Burmese squad after suffering a 1-2 heartbreaking loss to Malaysian powerhouse SRG in their classic Swiss Stage clash last Tuesday.
The win ensures that both Philippine representatives advance to the playoffs, following Aurora Gaming’s earlier sweep of Team Spirit.
Team Liquid gained early control of the map in Game 1, but Yangon Galacticos kept it close in the first 20 minutes. The Filipinos would then pull away after Alston "Sanji" Pabico (Valentina) morphed into Kalea and unleashed a Tsunami Slam that allowed Kiel "Oheb" Soriano (Sora) to pick off Hann (Nolan).
With Yangon's jungler out of the picture, Karl "KarlTzy" Nepomuceno was able to secure a free Lord objective. Although the Burmese squad managed to melt the Lord, Team Liquid proved too strong in the ensuing skirmish, taking the first blood of the game.
Team Liquid masterfully got the job done in Game 2 with Oheb, this time using the Granger, dealing heavy damage in the endgame. The multi-titled gold laner took down Hann's Guinevere and Blink's Chou during a 15th minute clash.
The reigning back-to-back MPL champions then maximized an undermanned Yangon Galacticos to complete the clean victory and punch their KO ticket.
Exp laner Sanford "Sanford" Vinuya starred in both games, earning the MVP honors with his exceptional showings with Yu Zhong in Game 1 and Gloo in Game 2.
