Alexandra "Alex" Eala fell short against Alycia Parks, 6–0, 3–6, 2–6, on Monday in the first round of the Australian Open in Melbourne, bowing out early in the singles draw of the Grand Slam tournament.

Eala, however, will still compete in the doubles draw with Ingrid Martins of Brazil.
