Para swimmers Gary Bejino, Ernie Gawilan win gold in ASEAN Para Games

Philippine para swimmers Gary Bejino and Ernie Gawilan delivered the country’s first two gold medals in the ongoing ASEAN Para Games in Thailand.

Bejino captured the first gold after ruling the men’s 400-meter freestyle S6 final, clocking 5:32.08 to beat rivals from Vietnam and host Thailand while also setting a new games record.

Gawilan followed suit by topping the men’s 400-meter freestyle S7 event with a time of 5:02.39 to secure another gold for the Philippines.

The ASEAN Para Games officially opened Tuesday night, with wheelchair racer Jerrold Mangliwan leading the Philippine delegation during the opening ceremony.
