MLBB: SRG escapes Aurora Turkiye, nears M7 Grand Finals
JAKARTA — Malaysian powerhouse SRG survived a gutsy Aurora Turkiye, 3-2, in a heated M7 World Championship upper bracket semifinal on Wednesday at the Tennis Indoor Senayan in Jakarta, Indonesia.
Bannered by Filipino imports Mark “Kramm” Rusiana and John “Innocent” Banal, along with Filipino head coach Michael “Arcadia” Bocado, SRG moved to the cusp of a breakthrough grand finals appearance.
Aurora Turkiye, meanwhile, dropped to the lower bracket quarterfinals following the loss.
Aurora Turkiye’s midlaner Rosa worked his magic on Zhetian in Game 1, delivering five kills and eight assists to help the Turkish club claim first blood against the reigning four-time MPL Malaysia champion.
SRG, however, bounced back in Game 2 with a late defensive play, avoiding a 0-2 deficit as Innocent wreaked havoc with eight kills and six assists on the Cici.
The next two games saw Aurora and SRG trading wins, but the Malaysians ultimately prevailed in Game 5, led by roamer Yums on Chou, securing the series victory.
With the win, SRG maintained a flawless run in the tournament, not dropping a single game since the Swiss Stage.
The performance also marked a huge improvement from their M6 run, where the team had to fight through the lower bracket before falling to Team Liquid Indonesia in the lower bracket finals.
“Siguro mostly dahil sa experience namin kasi last M6 first time namin mag-Swiss Stage and first time naming mag-best of one, so hindi pa namin masyadong gamay,” said head coach Arcadia.
“Pero now, given that valuable experience, I think nadala namin going into this M7.”
SRG will face the winner of the series between Aurora Gaming (Philippines) and Alter Ego (Indonesia) in the next round.
