PH para athletes break records, grab golds at ASEAN Para Games
Philippine para athletes continued their stellar performance at the ASEAN Para Games in Thailand on Thursday, breaking records on their way to gold medals.
King James Reyes set a new Games record in the men’s 1500m T46, finishing in 4:17.93 to claim gold.
Meanwhile, Cyril Cloyd Ongcoy clocked 4:26.32 to win gold in the men’s 1500m T12, also setting a new Games record.
Alyana Nuñez added to the medal haul by taking gold in the women’s discus F11 event.
With these victories, the Philippines’ para athletics team now has seven golds, tying with para swimming, which also has seven. In total, the Philippines has 15 gold medals, with the remaining gold coming from para fencing. The Philippine delegation also boasts 15 silver medals and 15 bronze medals across events.
Those classified in T events compete in track and jump competitions, with T46 for athletes with upper limb impairments and T12 for those with visual impairments. F events are for field competitions, with F11 designated for para athletes with visual impairments.
