ONE Fight Night 39: Bumina-ang demolishes Brazilian foe, returns to winning ways with 2nd-round KO
Carlo Bumina-ang barged his way back into the win column, knocking out Brazil’s Marcos Aurelio in the second round of their bantamweight MMA clash at ONE Fight Night 39: Rambolek vs. Dayakaev.
The Filipino powerhouse provided an explosive start to the Saturday morning event at Bangkok’s Lumpinee Stadium, delivering a rousing finish during the curtain-jerker.
The contest began tentatively as both fighters spent the better part of the first period getting a feel for distance and trading low kicks. It was Bumina-ang who eventually landed the first significant strike with a thudding body kick.
As the opening round wound down, Bumina-ang initiated his first takedown attempt. However, the taller and younger Aurelio postured up effectively to neutralize the shot. Before the bell, Aurelio managed to break free from Bumina-ang’s grasp, showcasing a polished grappling defense that kept "The Bull" at bay.
That late success may have gifted Aurelio a sense of false confidence. The promotional newcomer entered the second frame with a newfound willingness to trade shots, a fatal mistake against a noted power puncher. Bumina-ang’s head-hunting paid dividends almost immediately.
The Team Lakay rising star dropped the Brazilian with a thunderous left hand. Aurelio scrambled back to his feet, only to be sent back down with another clubbing left. Clearly hurt, Aurelio attempted to survive on wobbly legs.
The 31-year-old veteran pounced on his wounded prey, landing a blistering left-right hook combination that found its mark on Aurelio’s jaw. Referee Olivier Coste stepped in to call the stoppage at the 50-second mark of round two.
With the victory, the Baguio City native improved to 9-2, while handing Aurelio the first professional loss of his career (8-1).
