Para athletics boosts PH gold haul as ASEAN Para Games nears end
Para athletics continued to deliver for the Philippines, adding more gold medals to the country’s tally as the ASEAN Para Games in Thailand approaches its closing.
On Saturday, Alyana Nuñez captured the gold medal in the women’s shot put F11, setting a new Games record with a throw of 7.85 meters. It was her second gold medal of the meet.
Cendy Asusano likewise established a new Games record in the women’s javelin F54, posting a throw of 15.42 meters to secure her second gold medal.
As of 11:50 a.m., the Philippine para athletics team had amassed 16 gold medals—three more than para swimming’s 13—while chess accounted for four golds.
Para table tennis contributed one gold through Lhey Marie Manginsay in the women’s singles TT9, while para fencing added another courtesy of Marlyn Garrucho in the women’s individual sabre A.
Overall, the Philippines stands at 35 gold medals, 26 silver medals, and 43 bronze medals in the ASEAN Para Games, according to the tournament's website.
