Tennielle Madis falls short vs Sawangkaew as PH athletes put up gallant stand in Philippine Women’s Open
Filipina player Tennielle Madis fell to Mananchaya Sawangkaew, 6-4, 6-0, in the Philippine Women’s Open Round of 32 on Monday at the Rizal Memorial Sports Complex in Manila.
Madis is among a few Filipino players who were given wildcard entries, alongside Alex Eala, Elizabeth Abarquez, and Kaye Anne Emana.
Sawangkaew, meanwhile, was Eala’s finals foe in the recent Southeast Asian Games where the Filipina won gold.
Earlier, other Filipinos put up gallant fights as they tried to defend homecourt.
Elizabeth Abarquez fell to Mai Hontama of Japan, 6-0, 6-0.
Meanwhile, in doubles, Darja Semenistaja of Latvia and Nicole Fossa Huergo of Argentina won against the Filipina pair of Justine Maneja and Kaye Ann Emana , 6-2, 6-2.
Sara Saito of Japan and Li Yu-yun of Chinese Taipei also defeated Angeline Alcala and Joanna Victoria Pena of the Philippines, 6-0, 6-1.
