EJ Obiena tops Germany meet, shares win with Menno Vloon

Filipino Olympian and pole vaulter EJ Obiena secured his first indoor season win at the Springer Meeting in Cottbus, Germany on Thursday (Philippine time).

Obiena cleared a season-best 5.77 meters, finishing joint first with Menno Vloon of the Netherlands.

Both vaulters recorded the same height and the same number of failed attempts. They each attempted 5.84 meters in a jump-off but were unsuccessful, ultimately sharing the title.

American Sam Kendricks also cleared 5.77 meters but required three attempts to do so, while Obiena and Vloon needed only two, placing Kendricks third, according to a report by European Athletics .

Last Sunday, Obiena bagged the bronze medal at the ISTAF Indoor tournament as he cleared 5.65 meters.
