Camila Osorio outlasts Donna Vekic to claim inaugural Philippine Women’s Open title

Colombia’s Camila Osorio captured the inaugural Philippine Women’s Open after rallying past Donna Vekic in the finals, 2-6, 6-3, 7-5, on Saturday before a packed center court at the Rizal Memorial Sports Complex in Manila.

Vekic dominated the opening set, cruising to a 6-2 win, before Osorio responded with a steady 6-3 victory in the second to level the match.

With both players relishing their final hours on court in Manila, the decider turned into a tense back-and-forth battle. Osorio repeatedly found ways to stay even, eventually taking the ninth game in the set to win back-to-back games.

In the 10th game, Vekic surged to a quick 30-0 lead, but Osorio clawed back to 30-all. Vekic won the next two points to keep the set level.

Osorio then broke through to claim a 6-5 lead and jumped out to a 30-0 advantage in the following game. Vekic pulled one point back, but Osorio closed out the match by winning the final two points to seal the championship.

"I'm super, super happy in order to be here," Osorio said after the victory.

"It's such a pleasure to play here."

On her way to the title, Osorio defeated Sakura Hosogi, 6-4, 6-3, and Mai Hontama, 6-4, 4-6, 6-2, before beating hometown favorite Alex Eala, 6-4, 6-4. In the semifinals, Osorio cruised past Solana Sierra, 6-0, 6-1.
