Who is Dayana Yastremska? Alex Eala’s Round of 64 opponent in Indian Wells Open
Alexandra "Alex" Eala will open her Indian Wells Open campaign against Ukraine’s Dayana Yastremska.
Eala and Yastremska are set to face off in the Round of 64, with the match expected to take place on Saturday.
The 25-year-old Yastremska currently ranks No. 52 in the world and previously reached a career-high ranking of No. 21 in 2020.
Yastremska owns three WTA singles titles and made a deep run at the Australian Open in 2024, reaching the semifinals. Last year, she also advanced to the Round of 32 at the Australian Open, Roland Garros, and Wimbledon, before exiting in the first round of the US Open and this year’s Australian Open.
She is coming off a Round of 32 loss to Marina Stakusic at the Merida Open last week.
This will not be the first meeting between Eala and Yastremska.
The two previously faced off in the quarterfinals of the Eastbourne Open, where Eala won convincingly, 6-1, 6-2.
In Dubai, Yastremska lost to Janice Tjen in the Round of 64 and to Elina Svitolina in the Qatar Open Round of 32. She also fell to Ekaterina Alexandrova in the Round of 16 in the Abu Dhabi Open.
Eala, meanwhile, is currently ranked No. 32 and is coming off an impressive Middle East swing.
The Filipina reached the quarterfinals of the Dubai Tennis Championships, where she lost to Coco Gauff. She also made the quarterfinals of the Abu Dhabi Open before bowing to Alexandrova. In Qatar, she exited in the Round of 64 after falling to Tereza Valentova.
Eala will also compete in the doubles draw at Indian Wells alongside Iva Jovic.
