EJ Obiena rules ISTAF Indoor with season-best clearance

Filipino Olympian and pole vaulter EJ Obiena posted a season-best clearance of 5.78 meters to capture the gold medal at the ISTAF Indoor in Berlin.

EJ Obiena needed only one attempt to clear 5.78 meters and rule the event. Earlier, the Filipino pole vaulter needed two attempts to get past 5.60 meters.

Simen Guttormsen of Norway also cleared 5.78 meters but settled for the silver medal after needing more attempts in the earlier heights.

Both Obiena and Guttormsen attempted 5.83 meters, but neither was able to clear the bar.

Menno Vloon of the Netherlands and Bo Kanda Lita Baehre of Germany finished in a tie for third place after clearing 5.70 meters.
