Alex Eala to face Coco Gauff in Indian Wells Open Round of 32

Alexandra "Alex" Eala will face a familiar opponent when she steps onto the court in the Round of 32 of the Indian Wells Open — Coco Gauff.

The American star, currently ranked world No. 4, is coming off a Round of 64 victory over Kamilla Rakhimova of Uzbekistan, 6-3, 7(7)-6(5).

Eala, meanwhile, advanced after a hard-fought 7-5, 4-6, 7-5 win against Dayana Yastremska in the Round of 64.

This will not be the first meeting between Eala and Gauff.

Just weeks ago, the two squared off in the quarterfinals of the Dubai Tennis Championships, where Gauff came away with a 6-0, 6-2 victory.

The two have also previously teamed up in doubles at the Italian Open last year, reaching the quarterfinals before falling to Italian pair Sara Errani and Jasmine Paolini.

Eala and Gauff are expected to meet on Monday.

On Sunday, Eala will begin her doubles campaign alongside Iva Jovic, where they will face the tandem of Hailey Baptiste and Jelena Ostapenko.
