Who is Laura Siegemund? Alex Eala’s Round of 64 opponent at the Miami Open
Alexandra “Alex” Eala is set to face Germany’s Laura Siegemund in the Round of 64 of the Miami Open.
Eala received a first-round bye, while Siegemund advanced after defeating Petra Marcinko, 6-4, 6-4, in the Round of 128.
The 38-year-old Siegemund is currently ranked world No. 53 and reached a career-high singles ranking of No. 27 in 2016. In doubles, she climbed to a career-best No. 4 in 2024 and currently holds the No. 23 spot.
This season, Siegemund reached the Round of 64 at both the Indian Wells Open and the Australian Open. She also had early exits in the Qatar Open and the Dubai Tennis Championships.
Since her Grand Slam main draw debuts in 2015, Siegemund has recorded multiple notable finishes, highlighted by quarterfinal appearances at the French Open in 2020 and Wimbledon in 2025.
World No. 29 Eala, meanwhile, returns to Miami a year after her breakthrough run at the tournament, which helped spark her historic 2025 season.
