Who is Magda Linette? Alex Eala’s Miami Open Round of 32 opponent
Alexandra “Alex” Eala is set to face Poland’s Magda Linette in the Round of 32 of the Miami Open.
Linette booked her spot in the said round after a comeback victory over Iga Swiatek, 1-6, 7-5, 6-3.
Linette, a 34-year-old Polish tennis player, is currently ranked World No. 50. She achieved a career-high ranking of No. 19 in 2023.
A seasoned player, Linette has won three WTA titles and has been a consistent presence in Grand Slam tournaments since 2015. Her best Grand Slam performance came in 2023, when she reached the semifinals of the Australian Open.
Heading into Miami, Linette exited in the first round of Indian Wells, where she lost to Ashlyn Krueger. Earlier this season, she advanced to the Round of 32 at the Australian Open.
Linette and Eala have is no stranger to each other. The Polish veteran won their first two encounters—at the 2024 Abu Dhabi Open (7-6, 6-1) and the 2025 Nottingham Open (6-4, 6-3).
The two have also faced each other in doubles action. At the Australian Open, Linette and partner Shuko Aoyama defeated the tandem of Eala and Ingrid Martins, 7-6(3), 2-6, 6-3.
Eala advanced to this stage with a 6(6)-7, 6-3, 6-3 victory over Laura Siegemund.
